Men and women who want a tight, athletic neck and well defined jaw contours, choose liposuction surgery, sometimes in combination with other facial procedures to contour areas that are resistant to weight loss and exercise.
You, too, can enjoy a slimmer, more athletic face and neck with this simple procedure. The procedure and recovery are simple, and there is only minimal bruising and soreness.
Liposuction sculpting of the neck has become one of the more common cosmetic surgical procedures performed in our office. Proven safety, minimal discomfort, and outstanding results have made it the most popular way to contour the neck to produce a more youthful, athletic appearance. Men and women find it particularly effective in establishing a strong jaw line, which optimizes the tight, youthful, slim, athletic neck contour.
Procedure
Lipocontouring of the neck is performed in our office outpatient surgery suite under a light general anesthetic plus local anesthetic. A small, inconspicuous incision is made under the chin and under each ear. A thin hollow tube (cannula) is inserted into the fat layer through the small incision. When suction is applied to the tube, which is moved through the tissue in a fan shaped pattern, fat can be removed in a very controlled, uniform manner.
By contouring the fat to the best thickness in each area of the neck, Dr. McBride is able to establish the optimal neck contour for each patient. An elastic pressure bandage is applied which minimizes swelling and bruising. Patients experience some tightness in the neck but rarely have any pain. Recuperation is generally very rapid with minimal down time, usually over a weekend.
Muscle Tightening
In addition to excess fat in their necks, some patients have neck laxity caused by weakening of the thin platysma muscle under the skin. The muscle can sag and produce a full neck that cannot be corrected by liposuction alone. The muscle can be tightened at the same time as the liposuction is performed, to produce a dramatic, tight neck and well defined jaw line.
The improvements in neck contour come from removing excess fat, and from the shrinkage and tightening of the skin as it heals. Additional improvements are produced by tightening the platysma muscle. Any combination of these procedures establishes a firmer attachment of the skin to the underlying tissue. The added tissue stability and tightness produces the more athletic appearance.
Neck Lift Alternative
If the neck skin has lost its elasticity and is sagging, a neck lift should be considered in addition to lipocontouring. A neck lift is the equivalent of the lower half of a facelift. The excess skin is removed through incisions in front of and behind each ear. A neck lift will reduce excess neck skin and fullness and provide a more toned, athletic neckline. It is great for those who do not need a full facelift, yet will not get the best result with lipocontouring alone. Many men like neck lifts because they are less involved that a face lift, and men are more interested in improving their necks than their midfaces.
