CO2 Laser is the Gold Standard
There are many new techniques being marketed as producing a good result with less recovery than the CO2 laser. Unfortunately, there is no short cut to great results. Techniques like Plasma Skin Rejuvenation, or PSR, and Fractional Skin Resurfacing, produce a more rapidly healing injury, but produce much less improvement.
The CO2 laser can be used to produce a light, rapidly healing treatment with moderate improvement, up to a deep, slower healing treatment that will produce dramatic improvement, or anything in between. Some patients only need a mild to moderate intensity treatment, and others need a more aggressive treatment. The CO2 laser covers all possibilities better than any other technology.
How Lasers Work
Computer controlled lasers emit a powerful beam of light that can be used to precisely remove a superficial layer of skin. The surface cells are vaporized, leaving a smooth healthy surface for young new cells to grow over. The laser removes the old, rough surface cells and stimulates the deeper layers of skin to grow thicker, thus filling in the depressions in the skin and creating a smoother surface. Dr. McBride owns the latest generation of lasers, which gives him the most precision and produces faster healing and better results.
Lasers are effective for rejuvenating sun-damaged skin, smoothing acne scarring, eliminating age spots and discolorations, and reducing facial scars and wrinkles. The laser is particularly effective in removing vertical lines in the upper and lower lips, lines at the corners of the mouth, and crow's-feet. These are areas that are not effectively improved with a facelift. Therefore combining the laser with a facelift or other procedures, such as fat transfer or fillers, will provide a result that is far better than either procedure alone.
Recuperation
It takes several days for the skin to heal after laser surgery. A moist dressing, such as 2nd Skin, protects the healing tissue and keeps it very comfortable. With our proven home care approach you should have no pain. Heavy moisturizers are used to speed healing. After six to eight days, makeup can be applied.
The skin stays pink with a healthy glow for about two months. The pink color represents increased blood flow in the skin, which leads to thickening of the deeper layer and a smoother final result. Sunscreens should be used daily to protect the skin from sun irritation. |
